About Ausable River (East Branch)

Classic Adirondack freestone water flowing out of the High Peaks through Keene Valley to Au Sable Forks. Wild brook, brown, and rainbow trout in a spectacular mountain setting. Hatches run two to three weeks earlier here than in the Catskills, so April Hendricksons and May Green Drakes arrive ahead of schedule.

Regulations

Adirondack Park regulations apply — check NYSDEC for current special regulation waters. Various delayed-harvest and no-kill sections. Gauge is at Au Sable Forks (lower end of the trout water); upper reaches near Keene Valley flow lower than the gauge reads. Requires NYSDEC license. Brook trout season may close earlier than brown/rainbow in some ADK waters.
