About Battenkill River

The most famous trout river in Vermont and arguably the entire Northeast. Wild brown trout only — the catch-and-release section near Manchester and Arlington prohibits stocking. Gin-clear, low-gradient water demands long leaders and accurate casts. Fished by Orvis instructors for generations; spills into New York after Arlington, but the Vermont section is the gold standard.

Wild Trout Management — no stocking in the Manchester/Arlington corridor. Catch-and-release sections under Vermont F&W special regulations. Requires Vermont fishing license.
