About Big Darby Creek
Big Darby Creek is a state and federally designated scenic river in central Ohio, nationally significant for its exceptional biodiversity — home to one of the highest concentrations of rare native mussels and fish species in the Midwest. This is NOT a primary trout stream; it's a warm-water system, and the realistic fly target here is smallmouth bass alongside many rare non-game fish. Included for warm-water and scenic-river anglers. The Darbyville gauge has 97 years of continuous record. Best fishing: late spring through early fall for smallmouth on the lower reaches.
Regulations
Ohio fishing license required (resident $25/year). Big Darby Creek is a state and federal scenic river — standard Ohio fishing regulations apply; no special trout regulations (this is a warm-water fishery). 2026–27 regulation cycle effective March 1, 2026. Verify at wildohio.gov.
