About Blue River

The Blue River in Grant County is one of Wisconsin's premier Driftless wild-trout streams and carries an Enhanced Resource Waters (ERW) designation — meaning catch-and-release only and artificials only on the protected sections. Heavy populations of wild brown trout in technical limestone water. The ERW status reflects decades of habitat work and the river's importance as a Driftless reference fishery.

Regulations

Enhanced Resource Waters (ERW) designation — catch-and-release only, artificials only on the protected sections. Wisconsin Fishing License required ($20 resident + $10 trout/salmon stamp = $30). Season opens first Saturday in May. Verify Grant County section-by-section regulations in current Wisconsin DNR trout regulations. No active USGS gauge — check with southwest WI fly shops.
