About Brule River

The Brule River (Minnesota — not to be confused with the Bois Brule in Wisconsin) flows through Judge C. R. Magney State Park on the far North Shore. The Devil's Kettle waterfall is the river's most famous feature. Strong spring steelhead runs and fall coho salmon below the falls; native brook trout in the upper river. Less pressured than the southerly North Shore rivers because of the long drive from the Twin Cities.

Regulations

SPLIT REGULATIONS — above the first waterfall from Lake Superior: standard MN inland trout regulations. Below the falls to Lake Superior: steelhead/salmon regulations, may be open year-round per MN DNR North Shore tributary rules. Pink salmon return on odd years only — next run is 2027. Minnesota fishing license required ($25 resident annual) + $10.75 trout stamp. Verify all section-by-section closures and seasonal dates on the MN DNR North Shore tributary page before fishing.
