About Casselman River

The Casselman River near Grantsville in Garrett County is one of Maryland's premier native brook trout streams, flowing through a pastoral Allegheny valley with classic freestone character. The upper reaches hold wild, stream-born brook trout in clear, cold freestone runs, while the lower sections near Grantsville receive supplemental stocking and hold brown trout. The Casselman rewards anglers willing to slow down and work small pockets carefully.

Regulations

Standard Maryland statewide trout regulations apply. Trout season opens the last Saturday in March. Upper wild trout reaches may have special wild trout stream protections under Maryland DNR management β€” consult the current Freshwater Fishing Guide.
