About Chagrin River

One of Ohio's premier steelhead rivers, the Chagrin flows 66 miles northeast through Geauga and Lake Counties before emptying into Lake Erie near Willoughby. Spring-run and fall-run steelhead make annual migrations from late October through April — peak runs in November–December and March–April. The river passes through South Chagrin Reservation and Chagrin River Park, providing excellent public access. Upper headwaters support a rare, genetically distinct population of wild Ohio brook trout (catch-and-release only). Special regs: steelhead creel limits apply from Lake Erie to the SR 283 bridge. At 100–700 CFS the Chagrin is prime wading water; above 1,500 it goes off-color and tough to wade.
