About Clear Fork of Mohican River

The Clear Fork of the Mohican River flows through Richland County in north-central Ohio, best known for its proximity to Mohican State Park and the surrounding canoe country. The river is stocked with rainbow and brown trout in spring by Ohio DNR. Gauge 03131982 at Bellville sits downstream of Clear Fork Reservoir — flows here are partially regulated by reservoir management, meaning releases can spike or drop independently of rainfall. This makes raw CFS less predictive of fishing quality than on free-flowing streams. Check both the gauge and the reservoir release schedule (Ohio DNR / US Army Corps) when planning a trip. Best fishing: spring trout stocking season (March–May) and fall cooldown for holdovers.

Regulations

Ohio fishing license required (resident $25/year). Standard trout regulations apply on the stocked sections. Flows are partially regulated by Clear Fork Reservoir — check reservoir releases when planning. 2026–27 regulation cycle effective March 1, 2026. Verify at wildohio.gov.
