About Farmington River (MA Section)

The West Branch of the Farmington River rises in the Berkshire highlands near Otis Reservoir and flows southwest through the quiet rural corridor of New Boston and Sandisfield before crossing into Connecticut. The Massachusetts section is a classic Berkshire freestone stream — less pressured than the famous Connecticut Trout Management Area downstream — with a mix of stocked and wild brown and brook trout in fast, freestone water. It is an excellent early-season destination before flows drop in midsummer.
