About Illinois River
The Illinois River is the crown jewel of Oklahoma float fishing — a designated scenic river winding through the Ozark foothills west of Tahlequah. Smallmouth bass hit topwater aggressively from May through October in the clear, gravel-bottomed riffles. The upper river near Tenkiller is more technical; the lower float stretches are ideal for beginners on canoes and kayaks.
