About Kern River
The Kern River drainage is home to the California Golden Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss aguabonita) — the California state fish, native exclusively to the South Fork Kern River above Kern Falls and the Golden Trout Wilderness. The main Kern above Isabella Lake near Kernville offers road access for wild rainbow trout and serves as the gateway to Golden Trout Wilderness backcountry.
