Voluntary Catch-and-Release Advisory
Water temperature is at or above 68°F. At these temperatures trout are physiologically stressed and have a higher post-release mortality rate. Consider waiting for cooler conditions — early morning or evening — or choosing a tailwater with regulated temperatures.

About Little Red River
The Little Red River below Greers Ferry Dam is a heavily-hydropeaked tailwater that produced the world-record 40-pound, 4-ounce brown trout in 1992. Cold bottom-release water from Greers Ferry Lake supports trophy browns and stocked rainbows, but CFS can spike from 200 to 5,000+ within hours when generators kick on — read the gauge before driving and check generation schedules. The Greers Ferry tailwater is one of the most volatile fisheries in the Ozarks and one of the most rewarding when it's wadeable.
Regulations
Arkansas fishing license + trout permit required (resident ~$10.50 + ~$10.00 trout permit = ~$20.50/year). EMERGENCY REGULATIONS in effect (Feb 2026 — hatchery shortage): Greers Ferry / Little Red allows 2 trout of any species; any trout over 14" must be released immediately. Year-round season. Heavy hydropeaking — check generation schedule and gauge before driving. Verify current emergency regulations at agfc.com before fishing.
