About Millers River

The Millers River flows west through North-Central Massachusetts from Winchendon through Athol and Erving before emptying into the Connecticut River at Millers Falls, offering a lengthy freestone fishery with broad public access along its corridor. The river supports stocked rainbow trout alongside resident wild brown and brook trout, with the lower catch-and-release section near Erving producing some of central Massachusetts's most reliable hatches and holdover fish. It runs through a working landscape with numerous mill-dam remnants but remains productive throughout.

Regulations

Lower C&R section: Wendell Road bridge in Orange downstream to the breached dam in Erving Center β€” artificial lures only, all trout must be released, open year-round. Upper remote C&R section: South Royalston downstream to Starrett Factory Dam in Athol β€” same restrictions. Standard MA trout regulations outside C&R areas.
