River Map
About North Fork White River
A high-elevation mountain river managed by the White Mountain Apache Tribe, the North Fork White River flows through dense ponderosa pine and spruce-fir forest at over 8,000 feet between the Greer area and White River. The tribal management program — stocking combined with habitat work — produces a surprisingly healthy fishery with both wild and hatchery rainbow and brown trout. Deep pools and pocket water behind fallen timber hold good fish throughout the accessible sections.
Regulations
Valid Arizona fishing license required PLUS a White Mountain Apache Tribe Recreation Permit — purchase at tribal offices in Whiteriver or authorized dealers. Tribal season dates and bag limits apply and may differ from state regulations. The gauge at White River measures the lower end; upper sections near McNary and Hon-Dah run significantly lower. The river is a tailwater below Hon-Dah — CFS alone does not indicate fishability — check dam release schedules.
