About Rocky River
The Rocky River flows through Cleveland Metroparks' Rocky River Reservation — one of the most accessible urban steelhead fisheries in the country. Despite its suburban setting, the river produces excellent fall and spring steelhead runs and is heavily stocked by Ohio DNR. The Berea gauge (04201500) is well below the Big Creek confluence and reflects near-lake conditions, making it the best flow indicator for the main fishing reaches. Steelhead creel limits apply to the section from Lake Erie through the Metroparks to Detroit Rd. bridge. Park regulations and permit requirements may apply for wading in certain sections of the Metroparks — confirm with Cleveland Metroparks before fishing.
Regulations
Ohio fishing license required (resident $25/year). No separate steelhead permit required. Steelhead creel limits apply from Lake Erie through Cleveland Metroparks upstream to the Detroit Rd. bridge. Park-specific wading rules may apply in the Metroparks — confirm with Cleveland Metroparks. 2026–27 regulation cycle effective March 1, 2026. Verify at wildohio.gov.
