About Russian River
The Russian River in Sonoma County supports a significant winter steelhead run, with fish entering the river from November through March. The lower river and tributaries including Austin Creek and Dry Creek hold steelhead as far upstream as conditions allow. Access points are well-developed through Sonoma County parks.
Regulations
All wild steelhead (intact adipose fin) must be released statewide. Check current CDFW regulations for Russian River-specific restrictions, which may include seasonal closures on tributaries. California Steelhead Report Card required ($10.29). California Sport Fishing License required.
