About Salmon River
The Salmon River below Leesville Dam is eastern Connecticut's standout tailwater, threading through deep hemlock-lined gorges in Colchester and East Haddam with cold, gin-clear water holding wild and stocked brown and rainbow trout year-round. The Trophy Trout designation and fly-only midsection keep pressure selective and fish quality high. Connecticut's ongoing Landlocked Atlantic Salmon restoration program targets this river, adding the possibility of a surprise species for prepared anglers.
Regulations
CFS alone does not indicate fishability β check dam release schedules. Trophy Trout Stream designation; fly fishing only in the designated midsection as posted. From the second Saturday in April through August 31: 2-trout daily limit (9" minimum). September 1 through the Friday before the second Saturday in April: catch-and-release only. Trout & Salmon Stamp required in designated TMA sections.
