About Spring River

The Spring River begins at Mammoth Spring — one of the largest springs in the world, discharging a rock-steady ~270 CFS year-round at a constant 58°F. Stocked rainbow trout (and some brown trout) thrive in the cold spring-fed water for the first miles below the spring, before the river warms and transitions to smallmouth water further south. The Mammoth Spring gauge is among the most stable in the country — flows barely fluctuate season to season. A great year-round, beginner-friendly Ozark trout option.

Regulations

Arkansas fishing license + trout permit required (resident ~$10.50 + ~$10.00 trout permit = ~$20.50/year). Year-round season; standard trout regulations on the stocked rainbow section below Mammoth Spring. No special emergency regulations on the Spring River as of Feb 2026. Verify current rules at agfc.com before fishing.
