About Tallapoosa River

Below Harris Dam, cold releases create a surprisingly productive tailwater in the Alabama piedmont. Brown trout hold in the deeper pools; striped bass push up from Lake Martin during cooler months. The Tallapoosa drainage is also home to the Tallapoosa redeye bass — an endemic species found only in this watershed.

Regulations

Trout stocking and special regulations apply in the tailwater section below Harris Dam. Verify current slot limits and daily bag limits with Alabama DCNR before fishing.
