About Timber Coulee Creek

Timber Coulee Creek in Vernon County is one of the most celebrated Driftless Area spring creeks — a small, technical limestone-influenced stream that holds heavy populations of wild brown trout per mile. Decades of habitat restoration through the Coulee Region Trout Unlimited chapter and the Wisconsin DNR have transformed Timber Coulee into a model Driftless fishery. Trico spinner falls, Sulphurs, and summer terrestrials drive the dry-fly action.

Regulations

Wisconsin Fishing License required ($20 resident + $10 trout/salmon stamp = $30). Season opens first Saturday in May. Verify Vernon County and Driftless special-regulation sections in current Wisconsin DNR trout regulations. Many Driftless reaches have artificials-only or reduced-bag designations — check posted signs and the WDNR trout map.
