About Trout Run Creek

Trout Run Creek in southeast Minnesota is one of the state's flagship special-regulation Driftless waters — artificials only, with a 12–16 inch slot limit (fish in the slot must be released, fish outside the slot may be kept). The slot protects the wild brown trout fishery through its fastest-growing years. Small, cold limestone-spring water with strong wild brown trout populations and brook trout in the headwaters.

Regulations

ARTIFICIALS ONLY + 12–16 inch SLOT LIMIT — fish in the 12–16 inch slot must be released; fish outside the slot may be kept (subject to bag limits). Minnesota fishing license required ($25 resident annual) + $10.75 trout stamp. Season opens second Saturday in April (2026: April 11). Verify Fillmore County section-by-section regulations in current Minnesota DNR trout regulations. No USGS gauge — check with regional fly shops before driving.
