About Upper Iowa River

The Upper Iowa River winds through northeast Iowa's Driftless coulee country — a medium-to-large limestone-influenced mainstem with strong populations of wild brown trout, brook trout in cold tributary headwaters, and a dramatic ridge-and-valley landscape that's geologically identical to the Wisconsin and Minnesota Driftless. Bluffton anchors the upper river fishery; floats and walk-wade access are excellent. Larger water than the small spring creeks of Allamakee County, with deeper holding water for trophy browns.
