About Upper Sacramento River

The Upper Sacramento River below Box Canyon Dam near Dunsmuir is one of California's premier wild rainbow trout fisheries. The river runs cold and clear through a dramatic canyon, with wild rainbows averaging 12–16 inches and occasional fish exceeding 20 inches. The Wild Trout Program section above Shasta Lake requires artificial lures.
