About Willimantic River
The Willimantic River flows through the forested highlands of Windham County, offering some of the best wild-trout water in northeastern Connecticut. The Cole Wilde Trout Management Area in Tolland and Willington is a fly-only stretch protecting naturally reproducing brown and brook trout in a classic forested-gorge setting. Cold groundwater contributions keep temperatures stable through summer, making this one of the more reliable late-season freestone rivers in the region.
Regulations
Cole Wilde TMA (Tolland/Willington): fly fishing only from the mouth of Roaring Brook downstream to the Route 74 bridge; Trout & Salmon Stamp required; catch-and-release only September 1 through the Friday before the second Saturday in April. General state season (second Saturday in April through November 30) applies to sections outside the TMA.
