About Winooski River

Vermont's second-largest river. The upper sections above Montpelier hold the best trout fishing — cleaner water, better gradient. Mixed wild and stocked browns and rainbows; lower reaches toward Burlington are heavily impacted by agricultural runoff and development. Strong Caddis, Sulphur, and PMD hatches. A solid secondary option when the marquee rivers are blown out.
