About Youghiogheny River

The upper Youghiogheny River near Oakland in Garrett County flows through some of Maryland's most scenic mountain terrain at high elevation, keeping water cool through much of the season. The Maryland section above Deep Creek Lake offers classic freestone fishing for stocked and wild brown and brook trout in a remote Appalachian setting with long riffles, deep pools, and classic Catskill-style water.

Regulations

Standard Maryland statewide trout regulations apply for most of the Oakland section. Trout season opens the last Saturday in March. Some sections above and within Youghiogheny River Lake may have special regulations β€” consult the current Maryland DNR Freshwater Fishing Guide.
